The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Ottawa Centre has been serving astronomers in the National Capital Region since 1906. In normal times, public meetings are held at the auditorium at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum, Ottawa at 7.30 p.m. (usually) on the first Friday each month - details on the home page, and see the map for directions. In COVID times, our meetings are conducted as Zoom webinars - links on ottawa.rasc.ca. During milder months (April - September) we organize public star parties where you can just come and see stuff, bring your own gear for tips on using it, or ask any of our minions for guidance. |
RASC Ottawa members also have access to the Fred Lossing Observatory (FLO) in Lanark County to learn how to use any of our three telescopes or to bring your own equipment (and guests) to enjoy night away from the urban sprawl. You can also develop your observing kung fu by trying for RASC observing certificates, as many of our members have done. Some have even gone on to win prestigious awards at centre and national level. And you can borrow telescopes and books to help you get started. |
